The sculpture was made by taking a mould from a model and casting it. Two faces are joined on a single
body, and ropes wrap both the interior and the body itself. It is shown on a plinth.
To be compressed is to be caught in a difficult position, held between two things. The individual is
caught between the values of the society they live in and their own. Compressed between the attempt to
conform to society's judgements and the desire to protect their own, the individual periodically comes
to a reckoning with themselves. The rope, wrapping the whole body, is intended to open that reckoning
to question. Made other to themselves, the individual comes to occupy an estranged whole.
