The installation is made from casts taken directly from parts of the body. Hands, feet, heads and
faces appear throughout the composition. Each element is bounded in three stages. First the objects
are contained within rectangular and square forms of compacted earth. Second, each of these units is
positioned inside a plinth. Third, the plinths themselves are bounded by a bank of earth drawn around
them.
The work is a critique of the social order that arrives with daily life, and sets out to offer a new
view of the boundaries held within society's layered structure. It makes visible the way distinct
social orders — family, work, private life — pass through one another. What appear to be independent
units are in fact bound together: individual, family and society are directly related, and can be
observed meeting at a common point.
